Job Description
Under general supervision, with some detailed instructions and intermittent review, and working in a manufacturing environment with a variety of epoxy agents, this position performs repetitive or standard procedures and assists in the fabrication, and curing. Perform composite finishing work including, fill and fair, sanding, polishing and applying sealants.
Repair of various types of composite materials where required information is readily available, methods and sequences have been per-determined and tooling is provided. Works to approved drawings, templates, sample parts, process sheets and other authorized information.
Responsibilities and Accountability
- Assist in the preparation of molds and forms.
- Mark and cut tape, woven material, honeycomb, adhesive and similar materials following templates, guides or specific dimensions and sequences.
- Vacuum bag parts for room temperature cure.
- Assist in the wet lay-up fabrication of composite materials to molds.
- Assist in the development of shop aids to facilitate fabrication, trimming and assembly as required.
- Check expiration dates of materials prior to use and prepare proper mixes of resins and catalysts.
- Maintain records as required. Support quality process by maintaining work area in an orderly condition by returning tools, equipment and materials to storage area.
- Fill and Fair parts to spec
- Sanding and finishing
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of safe workshop practices are required
- 1 year manufacturing experience [preferred]
- 1 year with layup, bonding, finishing or assembly of composites [preferred]
- Highly motivated and self-directed [required]
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills [required]
Desired Skills
- Interpret and use technical data to plan the sequence of work to be performed; read engineering drawings for composite structures
- Working knowledge of composite processes including mold preparation, wet layup vacuum bagging, bonding, oven curing and finishing.
Work Schedule is a 4 day week of either Mon – Thurs or Tue – Fri 6am to 4:30 pm
